The cruelty perpetrated on Bangalore’s dogs by an inefficient BBMP babudom and several insincere AWO’s participating in the Animal Birth Control (ABC) program – has been covered many many times on this publication. The widespread but poorly managed ABC program causes unthinkable cruelty on Bangalore’s dogs – with poor surgical practices and horrible tagging and drop practices. One of our contributors reports on a litter of 4 puppies he has been feeding  near his workplace. Yesterday he met their mom – an ABC dog! As you can see from the photographs her ears are clipped with theRead More
We wrote a few days back about the treatment of dogs in Surat, Gujarat, meted out by Surat Municipal Corporation and Animal Protection Club, Karad. The situation does not get any better in the last few days with these new pictures coming from the ground in Gujarat. A commentary is not being provided since enough has been said on the blasé attitude of this and other municipal corporations & Animal Welfare Organizations (AWOs). She is not the first dog in Surat or a victim of the CNVR surgery. In Bangalore we’ve seenRead More
What I vocalize here is not a new thought, this is with which we started and I have shared this in person with colleagues and VoSD Board members from time to time. But maybe for the 1st time being put out as 1 picture for everyone else. An year back VoSD was started on these premises: The nature of information. VoSD is an attempt to document what is happening and what has happened to our dogs, my dogs, in Bangalore and everywhere else. Many many very learned people have said ‘why do you want toRead More
This document is an Advisory issued by the Broadcasting Contents Complaints Council to TV Channels, regarding how animals are to be depicted in T.V. programs. Around 250 T.V. channels are a part of the Indian Broadcasting Foundation, which was set up in 1999, and is an apex organization of television broadcasters. It enjoys a unique position as the accredited spokesman of the broadcasting industry. For regulating television content there is a self-regulatory code that the Indian Broadcasting Foundation (i.e. the IBF), has formulated. The code in question and the related rules governing television content, areRead More
As with the other writing on ‘The Voice of Stray Dogs’, unless otherwise specified the writing expresses the opinion of  The Voice of Stray Dogs, and not necessarily that of individual VoSD Board members since individual comment/ contribution and consent is neither sought nor received. Here we examine whether this could it be Tamilnadu politics or just the sheer incompetence of the AWBI management, or both, that in case after case AWBI either fails to represent the animals adequalty or in case such as Kashmir and Punjab, fails to representsRead More
After getting his training in animal welfare workshop of AWBI in 1998 Darshan started in animal welfare work in his individual capacity and with another organisation. A few years ago we stared Prayas Team Environment where one of the wings is dedicated to animal rescue and welfare. He started with his home’s land line number manned by his grand mother and parents and today they seamlessly receive 35 rescue calls a day and in January during kite flying a rescue call every 3rd minutes! Prayas has a 50 volunteer team.Read More
The Government of Arunanchal Pradesh, vide a communique from the Department of Animal Husbandary and Veterinary (sic) dated 18 June 2012 banned the use of battery cages made of steel wire or local made baskets that do to allow birds to spread their wings and allow other natural behavior such as nesting, dust bathing, perching and foraging. Arunanchal Pradesh used Section 11 (1) {e} of the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act (1960) that forbids the confinement of any animal in a cage that does not allow an animal reasonable opportunity for movement andRead More
This is a series of posts on Kashmir. As with the other writing on ‘The Voice of Stray Dogs’, unless otherwise specified the writing expresses the opinion of  The Voice of Stray Dogs, and not necessarily that of VoSD Board members since individual comment/ contribution and consent is neither sought nor received. We have covered the litigation asking for other than ABC (spay-neuter) as a solution by ‘human activists’ in Kashmir [search on Kashmir in the search box above]. In this PIL No 361/2011 by A R Hanjura, Syed MusaibRead More
