Meat is ethics, culture, religion and economics rolled into one, and strangely, morals and politics, too. This article can be downloaded in PDF here The ‘Beef Ban’ of the ‘non-liberal’ ‘fascist’ ‘BJP’ government set the beef hot pot boiling on what is claimed to have been an Indian ‘agenda’ for years – Make India ‘beef’ free. On the other hand, Indians are eating more meat AND beef that includes both cow and buffalo meat. Consumption is up 14% in large cities, and 35% in villages, according to government data. Each time there is an animal cruelty case, petitions or demands of actions are made to the Animal Welfare Board of India (AWBI).  AWBI is a bureaucracy within an bureaucracy (Ministry of Environment and Forests) AND subservient to it – that can’t be a recipe of pro-activeness!  Ms Menaka Gandhi is the next best stop for action – but Ms Gandhi works on a range of issues that are brought to her notice the best she can and surely she can’t be the default for all action. So is the fate of India’sRead More

An order has been passed on March 19th, 2o12 by a Magistrate requiring that Mr. V.K.V. Sarma get ‘rid’ of his 30 odd pet dogs – all rescued by him – within 30 days from the date of the passing of the order! It is based on the entirely incorrect premise that Mr. Sarma was “rearing” dogs. It is stated to be based on a Madras High Court; but the Madras High Court order had only stated that breeding activity should not take place in residential colonies. That Mr. SarmaRead More

The original article can be see here All contact sport – man versus man, man versus animal and animal versus animal is raw human violence in action; violence barely held in check and which even the force of ‘civilization’ has failed to eliminate. Bloodier-the-better is the governing tenet of all such contact sport. Hunting – forest animals, whales, seals, dogs, cats, rats and cockroaches, is not even the subject of thisRead More
[The Voice of Stray Dogs investigation report] We’ve written about the correlation of dogs with garbage repeatedly, and its known that dogs and illegal meat shops and slaughter don’t mix. But what of a meat and a dog market within one building! How does that one look like? Pretty much anyone who’s familiar with Bangalore would be familiar with Russell Market – a quaint old building selling flowers, fruits and vegetables in a 90 yr old building. Quintessentially Indian. Quintessentially Bangalore. At the end of this and at a 90 degreeRead More

At the end of that sentence, I still wonder why anybody would be interested in my story or my plight; nevertheless I will go on like IRead More
